A New Companion: Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 2nd

ついに、このレンズを手にする日が来た。Summilux 50mm f/1.4 2nd。

Finally, the day has come to hold this lens in my hands: the Summilux 50mm f/1.4 2nd.

元々買うつもりはなかった。けれど「難あり品」として見つけたその個体は、前玉も後玉も驚くほど綺麗だった。若干のクモリがあるとの表記だったが、肉眼では全く分からないレベル。外装には年相応の傷があるが、60年以上前のものなら当然だ。何より、この美しい前玉を見てしまったら、手に入れないわけにはいかなかった。

I hadn’t originally intended to buy it. However, the copy I found as a “flawed item” had surprisingly clean front and rear elements. Though it was listed as having slight haze, it’s completely invisible to the naked eye. While the exterior has scratches, that’s to be expected for something over 60 years old. Most importantly, once I saw those beautiful glass elements, I simply couldn’t let it go.

貴婦人（1st）と並べてみると、全長は少し短い。4thも含めた3本のズミルックスが並ぶ姿は壮観だが、ライカを使い始めてわずか1年ちょっとでここまで辿り着くとは思わなかった。同じ「ズミルックス」という名でも、年代によってこれほど性格が違う。その面白さに、今すっかり魅了されている。

Side by side with “The Lady” (1st), the 2nd is slightly shorter in overall length. Seeing all three—including the 4th—lined up is a magnificent sight, though I never imagined I’d reach this point in just over a year of shooting Leica. It’s fascinating how much their characters vary across generations, even under the same “Summilux” name.

実はまだ実戦投入はできていないが、今から楽しみで仕方がない。この2ndがどんな絵を紡ぎ出すのか。早くポートレートで試してみたい。

I haven’t had the chance to take it out for a shoot yet, but the anticipation is building. I can’t wait to see what kind of images this 2nd generation will weave. I’m looking forward to trying it out for portraits very soon.
