Why I use Leica: There are no “advantages” (I think). Yet, I can’t let go. I often wonder if there are any real advantages to using Leica. In the past, I chose Canon for its AF or SONY for its lens variety. But with Leica? Honestly, there’s no “rational” reason. It’s not that advantages don’t exist, but they aren’t exclusive to Leica. It’s not just about admiration. If it were, I would have gone straight to the iconic M-body. So why am I here, using this “inconvenient” system? I’ve tried to break down the essence of this “addiction.” A $15,000 system around your neck might draw stares. But a Sony α1 II with a 400mm f/2.8 GM costs just as much and has a far more powerful presence. If you want to impress, a modern flagship is the more efficient choice. Leica lenses are compact, but so are modern AF lenses or Voigtländer’s M-mount offerings. Portability is no longer a valid excuse to choose Leica over more convenient alternatives. Modern tech guarantees the shot through brute force. Leica demands time. Manual focus forces me to value every single frame. This shift in mindset—from “capturing” to “crafting”—is where the joy lies. Efficiency brings results, but inconvenience brings experience. This isn’t about Leica vs. other brands; modern tech is the “muscle” that supports my professional work. However, the truth is simple: I fell in love with the rendering of the Summilux 35mm. Once you experience that specific atmosphere, the spec sheet becomes irrelevant. Trying to rationalize why you love a tool is, in itself, a bit pointless. It’s inconvenient, it’s dreamy, and for me, that is more than enough.

Leicaを使うメリットって / What is the advantage?
Leica SL2-SとM型のSummiluxを使っていてふと思うことがある。それは、Leicaを使っていて「メリット」はあるのかどうか、ということだ。
これまでなら「AFが優秀だからCanon」「レンズの選択肢が広いからSONY」といった明確な理由があった。しかし、Leicaに対してそうした合理的なメリットがあるかと考えたら、冷静に考えたらないな、と。厳密にはあるのだが、それはLeicaじゃなきゃダメな理由ではなかったりする。
1. ドヤれる / The “Status” Symbol
不便なカメラシステムに200万以上。首から下げていれば羨望の眼差しを受けるかもしれない。だが、SONYのフラッグシップ機α1 IIや望遠単焦点（ヨンニッパ）だって100万、200万は余裕で超える。手っ取り早くドヤりたいなら、見た目のインパクトも含めて国産のフラッグシップや望遠単焦点の方が目を引くはずだ。
2. 小型化できる / Portability
ライカのレンズは小さい。
だが最近では、フォクトレンダーなど他社からも高性能で安価なMマウントレンズが出ている。各社ミラーレスでも小型AFレンズの選択肢は豊富だ。サイズのためにわざわざ不便なLeicaを選ぶ理由は、もはやどこにもない。
3. 不便さという自由 / The Freedom of Inconvenience
最新のカメラはAFの暴力と連写の魔力で、シャッターチャンスを確実に仕留めてくれる。一方、M型レンズをマニュアルで操る僕は、一枚のピント合わせに時間をかける。連写もできない。でも、その不便さゆえに一枚のシャッターへの「こだわり」が生まれる。この向き合い方の変化が、どうしようもなく楽しいのだ。
結論：人間は不便なものほど楽しいと感じる生き物ではないだろうか
世の中は便利になりすぎた。ピントも露出も合って当たり前。だが、当たり前になればなるほど、感動は薄れていくのではないか。
これは決して「ライカサゲ、国産アゲ」という話ではない。最新のテクノロジーが僕の撮影を支える「筋肉」であることは事実だし、その恩恵を否定するつもりもない。ただ、それとは別に、ズミルックス35mmの描写に惚れてしまったという動かしがたい事実がある。あのライカ特有の空気感に一度触れてしまうと、スペック表は意味をなさなくなる。
自分が好きで惚れ抜いた道具を使うことに対して、無理やりメリット・デメリットを作る必要なんてない。そんなことを考えること自体が、実は一番「野暮」なのかもしれない。
不便だからこそ、そこには僕だけの「夢（ドリーミー）」が宿る。それで十分じゃないか。
