My First M-Leica: Diving Straight into a Monochrom-Only Body

まさか、自分がM型ライカを手に入れる日が来るとは思っていませんでした。
I never imagined the day would come when I would own an M-Leica.

思えば、最初にズミクロン 50mmを手に入れてから約1年半。そこからズミルックス4本にSL2-S、そして今回のM10モノクローム。自分でも怖くなるほどのハイペースです。
Looking back, it’s only been about a year and a half since I got my first Summicron 50mm. Since then, I’ve acquired four Summilux lenses, an SL2-S, and now the M10 Monochrom. It’s a pace that honestly scares me a little.

しかも、人生で初めて手にする「レンジファインダー」が、モノクロしか撮ることができない専用機だなんて。二重像を合わせてピントを追い込む独特の作法。正直、自分に使いこなせるのかという不安もあります。
To top it off, my very first “Rangefinder” experience is with a dedicated machine that can only shoot in monochrome. The unique ritual of aligning the split image to focus—honestly, I’m anxious about whether I can truly master it.

けれど、人生にはクレイジーになった方がいい瞬間があるし、あえて不自由な環境に飛び込むことで見えてくるものがあるはずです。今はその不安さえも楽しみながら、新しい「視点」を手に入れる挑戦をしてみようと思っています。
However, I believe there are moments in life when it’s better to be a bit crazy. By jumping into such a restricted environment, I hope to discover something new. I intend to embrace this anxiety and challenge myself to acquire a new “perspective.”

M10モノクローム（Leitz Wetzlar）とは

What is the M10 Monochrom (Leitz Wetzlar Edition)?

M10モノクロームは、最新のM11が出た今となっては1世代前のモデルですが、その実力は今なお唯一無二です。4000万画素という解像度は、モノクロ専用機としては驚異的な描写力を誇ります。

さらに今回手に入れたのは、世界650台限定の「Leitz Wetzlar」モデル。トップカバー上面に刻まれた伝統的なロゴは、ライカの聖地としての誇りを象徴しています。
Furthermore, the one I acquired is the “Leitz Wetzlar” edition, limited to 650 units worldwide. The traditional logo engraved on the top plate symbolizes the pride of Leica’s hometown.

至高の組み合わせ：4本のズミルックスを纏うThe Supreme Pairing: Dressing the M10 Monochrom in Four Summilux Lenses

手元にある4本のズミルックスを、さっそくM10モノクロームに装着してみた。1st（貴婦人）から現行のASPH.まで、それぞれの時代のレンズが放つ佇まいは、モノクロ専用機の精悍なボディーと恐ろしいほどに調和する。
I immediately tried mounting my four Summilux lenses onto the M10 Monochrom. From the 1st edition (the “Noblewoman”) to the current ASPH., the presence of each lens from its respective era harmonizes terrifyingly well with the intrepid body of this dedicated monochrome machine.

50mmの3世代による描写の違いはもちろん、35mm ASPH.をつけた時の機動力と凝縮感。これらをカラーフィルターを通さない「純粋な光」で使い分けられる贅沢に、改めて身が引き締まる思いだ。どのレンズから「光と影」の世界へ連れ出すか、これほど幸福な悩みはない。
Beyond the rendering differences among the three generations of 50mm, there’s the mobility and sense of density when the 35mm ASPH. is attached. Being able to use these lenses through “pure light”—without the filter of color—is a luxury that makes me truly check my own resolve. There is no happier dilemma than deciding which lens will first lead me into the world of light and shadow.

そもそも、なぜ買ったのか / Why Did I Buy It?

1. ライカのえげつない値上げ / Extreme Price Hikes

「今が一番安い」という現実に背中を押されました。一度上がった価格はほぼ下がらない。この機会を逃さないことにしました。

I was pushed by the reality that “now is the cheapest it will ever be.” Once prices go up, they rarely come down. I decided not to miss this opportunity.

2. 運命的な出会い / A Fated Encounter

実際にM11と撮り比べてみて、自分はM10が描き出す絵の方が好みだと確信しました。翌日まだ在庫が残っていたら運命だ、と自分に言い聞かせ再訪。無事、手に入れることができました。

After comparing it with the M11, I realized I preferred the rendering of the M10. I told myself that if it was still in stock the next day, it was fate. I went back, and here it is.

3. モノクロ一本でいきたかった / Commitment to Monochrome

色に惑わされず「光と影」だけで表現したい。カラーに逃げることができない環境へ、自分を追い込んでみたかったのです。

I want to express the world through “light and shadow” without being distracted by color. I wanted to push myself into an environment where I couldn’t escape back to color.

4. MレンズをMで使う真理 / Using M-Lenses on an M-Body

Mのために作られたレンズを、M型のボディーで使う。それが一つの「真理」だと思いました。

Using lenses designed for the M system on an actual M body—it felt like a fundamental “truth” to me.

もう、腹は括りました / I’ve Made My Decision

ここからの支払いを考えれば、もう後戻りはできません。これを機に「断捨離」をして、自分を取り巻くものを一気に整理しようと思います。
Given the upcoming payments, there’s no turning back. I’ll take this as an opportunity to declutter and organize my life.

だらしない環境を排し、本当に必要なものだけを残す。M10モノクロームを手に入れたことで、自分の生活やこれからの姿勢を、改めて見つめ直そうと思います。
I will eliminate clutter and keep only what is truly necessary. Owning the M10 Monochrom has given me a chance to re-evaluate my lifestyle and my future attitude.
